Barrie Gleason Carveth is a retired family nurse practitioner living in Charlottesville, Virginia. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University School of Nursing. Following graduation, she joined the Indian Health Service in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After three years of service, she enrolled at the University of Virginia, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Community Health Nursing and obtained certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Her career as a family nurse practitioner spanned forty years and included work in many communities and cultural settings. She worked primarily with nonprofit organizations serving rural and medically underserved populations. The opportunity to engage with a broad cross section of people with diverse health needs was a humbling and formative experience for her. In August 2024, she had the privilege of joining a World Neighbors journey to Kenya and Tanzania. Witnessing their development model in action and experiencing the culture and remarkable accomplishments of the communities visited was awe-inspiring.
Outside of her professional interests and travel, she enjoys gardening and hiking, and looks forward to spending more time on both in retirement.
