A frugal approach to managing our financial resources characterizes World Neighbors financial strategy. Our annual operating budget is approximately $6 million, which is invested in people, not things such as expensive construction and material aid.

World Neighbors was incorporated on Sept. 12, 1952, as a private, charitable, not-for-profit corporation. A volunteer board of trustees, whose members come from throughout the United States, contribute their time and expertise to govern World Neighbors. Trustees are elected for a term of three years.

World Neighbors operations are led by the president and CEO, who is ably assisted by a coordinating team composed of senior staff members. The World Neighbors staff includes: 18 team members located in the United States, including San Francisco, Ohio and at the Oklahoma City headquarters; 75 team members in the field who are from the areas where they work; more than 50 local partner organizations that help to train volunteers and leaders; thousands of volunteers in Asia, Africa and Latin America and Caribbean.

Learn about Melanie Macdonald, President and CEO

Melanie Macdonald joined Oklahoma City-based World Neighbors in 2004 as the organization’s first female president and chief executive officer. With a committed vision to growing the organization both domestically and internationally, Macdonald instituted a significant expansion program to increase World Neighbors profile, expand the program work around the globe and build a sustainable financial base for the organization’s future.

Macdonald is a member of the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches, an advisory board member of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, an associate member of the Global Philanthropy Forum and a member of the board of directors of InterAction. She is a past recipient of the Woman of the Year award in Peterborough, Canada for her outstanding contribution to the advancement of women, and was also a 2007, 2008 and 2009 Journal Record Woman of the Year Honoree in Oklahoma City, being inducted into their Circle of Excellence. Macdonald has also authored her first book, The Executive Woman’s Journal: a practical handbook for senior staff leaders of not-for-profits.

Macdonald brought a wealth of experience to World Neighbors with almost 30 years of experience in nonprofit management. Since beginning her tenure at World Neighbors, she has visited each one of World Neighbors current program areas and has met hundreds of the people whose lives have been transformed through this stunningly successful work.

Keith Anatol     Vice President Operations kanatol@wn.org A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Anatol comes to World Neighbors with several years of progressive finance, business and general management experience in the private, government and non-governmental organization (NGO) sectors. Most recently, he served as director of finance for CUSO, the Canadian, non-governmental version of the U.S. Peace Corps. Previous positions within Ontario government and several private organizations in Trinidad and Canada provided wide-ranging experience and skills for Keith’s subsequent positions. As vice president of operations, Keith is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of operations and targeted revenue generating activities, the development and institution of organizational policies and procedures, financial management, information technology and facilities and capital assets. He will also work to improve communication and integration across all departments globally. Keith is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK).

Rich Anderson     Vice President Resource Development randerson@wn.org Rich Anderson boasts 16 years of solid fundraising and management success in the nonprofit arena, having most recently served as vice president of client services with Copland O’Neil in Florida, where he was responsible for all strategic and operational objectives related to client services, business development and management of the agency’s clients, including some of the nation’s largest international relief and development agencies. Previously, Anderson served as development director for the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he was directly responsible for raising over $1.5 million annually through special events, major gifts, planned giving, direct mail, corporate sponsorships and foundation grants. Other experience included roles as director of individual giving for the Museum of Discovery & Science, account executive for Odell, Roper & Simms in Virginia and account executive for The American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. A native of Rhode Island, Anderson is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He received a bachelor’s of art degree in print journalism with a minor in international studies from American University in Washington, D.C.

Erin Engelke, APR Vice President Marketing and Communications eengelke@wn.org Erin Engelke has primary responsibility for managing World Neighbors public image. Her position also has several revenue generation responsibilities, including special event fundraising activities. Prior to joining World Neighbors in the fall of 2004, Erin held several communications positions in the Oklahoma City area, including serving as director of public relations at Smith and Associates Advertising where she managed the public relations and marketing needs of several local, national and international clients. She also served as the marketing coordinator for MidFirst Bank, Oklahoma's second largest privately-owned bank. Erin received a degree in public relations and advertising from Oklahoma Christian University and is an active member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City, Public Relations Society of America and the Association of Women in Communications (AWC), where she serves as communications chair. She also is accredited in public relations (APR).   Scott Killough, Ph.D.     Vice President Learning and Innovation skillough@wn.org Scott Killough is the vice president for learning and innovation at World Neighbors. He has nearly 25 years of experience in participatory agricultural and rural development management, having worked and lived in several countries. His background in rural development is based on a particular focus around livelihoods and agriculture, including field experience and expertise in program development and management, agricultural extension education systems, and sustainable agriculture practices within the tropics. From 1990 to 2006, Scott worked with the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (based in the Philippines). During that time, he held management positions in the Asia regional center, the headquarters, and the natural resources and agriculture program units, including Director of the Regional Center for Asia and Vice President. Throughout his time at IIRR, he was involved in programmatic activities, including oversight of community-based field projects, coordination of international workshops and trainings, publication and documentation activities and technical assistance assignments for agricultural project/program management. He worked in a number of countries in Central America (Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua), Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Philippines & Vietnam), East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda), and South Asia (India, Bangladesh and Nepal), as well as other countries. In the early 1980s, Scott lived in Guatemala for three years and worked in community-based livestock development projects and as a technical trainer for para-veterinary technicians. Scott completed a Ph.D. with the University of Reading in the U.K and he holds a Master’s degree in International Agriculture and Rural Development from Cornell University, and a B.S. degree in Agricultural Economics (and Political Science) from Oklahoma State University. Scott is an American citizen and is fluent in Spanish. Chris Macoloo, Ph.D. Regional Area Vice President Africa cmacoloo@wn.org  As regional area vice president Africa, Chris develops and manages the area programs and represents World Neighbors in East and West Africa through strategic networking, partnership and collaboration. Prior to joining World Neighbors in 2003, he served as a consultant for many development organizations on diverse issues such as program evaluation and organizational capacity assessments. Chris also worked for five years in Kenya as a program officer and deputy country director for SNV/Netherlands Development Organization. Before that he had worked for two years as a program officer for Intermediate Technology Development Group, an international development agency with headquarters in the United Kingdom, where he was responsible for shelter policy and programs in Kenya. Chris brings to World Neighbors over seven years of professional development experience in a multi-cultural environment of international non-governmental organizations, as well as over ten years of university teaching, research and publication at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University in urban geography and planning. He is a Fellow of Cambridge Commonwealth Society.    Chris Price Vice President Field Support cprice@wn.org Christopher Price began working for World Neighbors in October 2005. He moved to Oklahoma City from Denver, Colorado, where he served as the executive director and founder of Global Diversity Alliance, Inc. while consulting for a local anti-violence program.  Chris also served as the anchor consultant on a national AIDS program in Ecuador for the International HIV/AIDS Alliance and spent many years working for a major not-for-profit organization in the area of sexual health and rights where he managed a regional program consisting of 27 partners in 12 countries. Chris has extensive organizational development, program development, program evaluation, advocacy and management experience working in partnership with nongovernmental and community-based organizations, as well as, public sector agencies in 17 countries.  He started his career serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer for an appropriate technology program working in collaboration with Costa Rican farmers.  Chris has a MA in International Affairs, a BA in Political Science and is fluent in Spanish. As the vice president field support at World Neighbors, Chris guides and coordinates the development, monitoring and evaluation of regional strategic plan objectives.  He is responsible for strengthening the provision of support to the field, improved compliance by the field with organizational requirements and annual review and analysis of regional and departmental budget submissions.  Chris directly supervises the regional associate vice presidents for the Africa, Asia and Latin America and Caribbean regions and works in close consultation with the departmental vice presidents (VPs) in coordinating support to the field.   Shibesh Regmi, Ph.D. Regional Area Vice President Asia sregmi@wn.org   As Regional Associate Vice President, Shibesh is responsible for World Neighbors programs in India, Indonesia, Nepal and Timor Leste. Shibesh has 28 years of experience in community-based development, with an emphasis on gender as a crucial component of social change. With experience with both local and international development organizations, Shibesh has provided leadership to innovative programs that address rural poverty and build the capacity for people to advocate for themselves. Having earned his Ph.D. in Gender and Development from the Institute of Irrigation and Development Studies, University of Southampton, Shibesh has also served as the chair of the Nepal Association of International Non-Governmental Organizations and other groups that build solidarity and learning among progressive organizations.

World Neighbors is also included in Charity Watch's Index of Top-Rated Charities. The American Insitute of Philanthropy (AIP) awards this designation to charities that meet the double requirement of keeping fundraising costs low while at the same time spending a high percentage of its budget directly on programs. Organizations included in this index also receive an “open book” credit from AIP for willingly sending the financial documents requested.

World Neighbors is proud to be a seal holder of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance. Members of this alliance are monitored for adherence to the program's requirements and must maintain adherence to the Standards for Charity Accountability in order to display the BBB Wise Giving seal.
