Awards
World Neighbors and KFOR Dignity Award
World Neighbors has selected the recipients of the 2011 Dignity Award!
Dr. Robert Long
Dr. Robert Long is the Senior Pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He has acted globally with his work with St. Luke’s sister church in Ulyanovsk, Russia and locally with his tireless improvement of Skyline Urban Ministries, Project 222 afterschool program and St. Luke’s renowned mobile meals program. He has reached beyond the walls of his church with his interfaith initiatives, his ministering to his church neighborhood during the bombing crisis and his pasturing to several state leaders.
Skyline Urban Ministries
Skyline Urban Ministry is Oklahoma’s longest running choice food pantry. The program started in 1974 and provides food assistance to individuals all over the state. Skyline allows clients to choose groceries based on their needs and treats everyone as an equal member of society. Last year, this unique pantry helped restore dignity, equality and mutual respect to over 16,000 hungry Oklahomans.
INTEGRIS’ Sponsorship of the Stan Hupfeld Academy
The Stanley Hupfeld Academy is one of the state’s first charter schools and has raised the standards of excellence in education. Prior to INTEGRIS’ involvement, the school was in danger of being closed. With the implementation of new curriculum, programs and the addition of 300 mentors from the business sector, the school’s designation as low performing has been removed and students are reaching new levels of success.
Now in its second year, the World Neighbors and KFOR Dignity Award recognizes individuals and businesses that invest in the power and potential of others, respecting their dignities and empowering them to greater self-potential – all values shared by World Neighbors. The Dale Rogers Training Center and Charlotte Lankard (pictured right) were Dignity Award honorees in 2010.
Namasté award
World Neighbors is proud to present the fourth Namasté award to Ray and Pat Potts of Oklahoma City. They will be honored with the award, recognizing them for their contributions to World Neighbors and for representing the qualities of World Neighbors mission throughout the Oklahoma community.
Pat and Ray are true ambassadors for the World Neighbors mission. Over their more than 25 years as World Neighbors supporters, their family has lent crucial volunteer and fund raising support, visited World Neighbors program areas in Ecuador and in Honduras and inspired countless members of the community through their leadership. Ray also served on the board of trustees for World Neighbors from 1991 – 1997. During his tenure with the board, Ray served for a term as vice-chair.
Past Namasté award recipients are Carol Blackwood (2007), Dr. Susan Chambers (2009), and Patty Johnston and Mark and Jerry Gautreaux in (2010).
